Merry Christmas

Our class made candy canes and a Christmas plates with a pohutukawa on it for our Christmas art activity. We enjoyed colouring them in and painting them. This is our last post for the year as we move to a new class next year. We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

We made a Scarecrow

Our class made a scarecrow to go into our school garden as part of our environmental project. We had fun making it as we stuffed pea straw into old pantyhose and dressed him in old secondhand clothes. Take a look at our slide and tell us what you think.

Pet Day

Yesterday we had a pet day at school. We could bring along our pets and have them judged. We could also create things using a pet theme. The day was lots of fun. Take a look at our slides and tell us what you think.

The Work of Bees

Our class learnt about with work of bees. We learnt that there are different types of bees and that they do different types of work. Some pollinate flowers and others make honey. We really enjoyed the creativity of learning about bees through art. We also liked learning about the honeycomb being made up of hexagons. Take a look at our slide and tell us what you think.

Fun with Water

As a treat for doing well in our Junior Musical the junior school got to play water activities as well as to eat hot chips. The slides show some of our class enjoying the water activities. Ice cream Sundaes

Our class all enjoyed our ice cream sundaes. Our slides show Micah, Luca, Isla and Olivia writing about them. We did this as part of our writing activity. First we wrote down the steps to make an ice cream sundae. Then we ate it. It was yummy. After this we wrote about what it looked like, what it smelt like and what it tasted like. It was fun. St Johns Award

Milly brought along her St Johns trophy to share with us in show and tell. She won the West Coast District Youth Competition for the Penguin Pairs. We were all very proud of her for winning such an award as it shows her care for helping others. Let us know what you think.

Junior Musical

This week our class was involved in our school's Junior Musical. Many of us had acting parts. It took time for us to learn our lines and to learn all the songs. But it was a lot of fun. Let us know what you think.

Passports

We made passports with Mrs Minehan. Our passports showed a photo of ourselves, our age, our dream job, our favourite place to visit, sports we play, hobbies we do, our likes and dislikes as well as our best and worst subjects. Fake or Real?

Our class learnt about the difference between fake and real images on line by choosing an image and placing ourselves in it. We did this activity with Mrs Minehan. What we liked was being able to choose our own image and then putting a photo of ourselves in it. We also learnt how to do a screen shot. These slides show Zephyr standing amongst fire and water, Nate beside a warplane, Luke beside a book, Lucas beside a volcano, Amber on an Island beach and Madden on the moon. The Sea, Oceans and their Inhabitants

Our class learnt about how people interact with the seas, oceans and the creatures that live within them in both positive and negative ways. We also learn about tides and that the moon causes the tides. We enjoyed colouring all the different types of fishes, including penguins and crocodiles on both sides after we had traced them using the windows. After this we cut them out. We liked our sea display which was made from blue cellophane and put across the windows. We liked our beach which was made of sand, shells, stones and driftwood. We had alot of fun as we did these activities.

Creating a Collage Using Google Drawing

Yesterday we learnt how to make a collage with Mrs Minehan using google drawing. In this picture Zephyr, Madden and Micah drew and coloured in a kiwi. Zephyr thought it was really fun. Preparing for Athletics Sports

Lacee loves athletics because it is fun. Here she is practicing the long jump. At the end of a PE lesson with Helen we often give her a class hug because she is nice and because she teaches us lots of new things.

Life Education

We enjoyed having Monz teaching us from Life Education. She taught us about What makes a good friend? and What makes me a good friend? We really liked seeing Harold, listening to his jokes, learning about friendships through using fillers, dippers and puppets. Seeing the stars and the different coloured lights was also alot of fun. Show and Tell

Our class enjoys doing show and tell as we get to bring things to school and to share them with our class. Hunter - I brought some yellow daffodils and put Red, Green and Blue food colouring in water to get them to change colour. I enjoyed doing this as it was fun. Zack - My Nana and Grandad gave me these books when they visited. I really like looking at the pictures in these books. Tell us what you think. O

Our Animations

Yesterday we were learning to make animations with Mrs Minehan. First we opened a google slide. Next, using the explore button we chose a background. After this we chose an object that we could animate. We kept duplicating the slides as we moved the object across the slide. When the object was at the end of the slide we made it go back the other way. We really loved doing this because it was fun and exciting. Have a look and tell us what you think.

The High Jump

Our class has been busy preparing for our athletics sports with our PE teacher Helen. On this day we were learning how to do the high jump. We liked learning the high jump because we like jumping over the bar and doing the scissors jump. We also like landing on the mat as it is soft and spongy. It was a lot of fun.

Fire Safety

Yesterday we joined Tui to listen to our Hokitika firefighters who were speaking to us about fire safety. We learnt about smoke alarms and that when there is a fire that we should crawl on our hands and knees out of our houses as the smoke rises. We also learnt that if our clothing catches fire that we should roll on the ground to put it out. We were also told to make sure that we know our address just encase there is a fire at our place. The firefighters also showed us their fire safety gear that protects them when they go to put out fires. Let us know what you think.

Descriptive Writing

When a student came from another class and gave our teacher some flowers we wrote about them. We described what they looked like, what they smelt like and what they felt like. Tell us your thoughts about this.

Measuring Length

This week in groups we measured the length of one of the squares on the numbered turf outside our classroom. We worked out that we needed two rulers joined together to be able to do this. It was fun. Have a look at our slide and tell us what you think.
